About this track
Dunskys Road is a challenging 10 km sand track near Albany, suited to walkers and riders with solid fitness. The route crosses open country on loose sand—demanding underfoot but rewarding for those prepared for the effort. Allow 2 hours 15 minutes and carry plenty of water; summer heat and bushfire risk make cooler months preferable.
Highlights
- 10 km sand track through open Albany countryside
- Challenging terrain suits experienced walkers and riders
- Loose sand surface demands solid fitness and technique
- Quieter route away from town
What to expect
Loose, shifting sand throughout makes progress slower and footwork or bike handling trickier than on formed tracks. The open terrain offers little shade, so you'll be exposed to sun and wind. Gradient varies but the sand surface itself is the main physical demand. Track is likely signposted but may be less defined in places due to sand movement.
Good to know
Carry 2+ litres of water per person; summer is hot and carries bushfire risk—check conditions before heading out. Wear sturdy boots or trail shoes with good grip. Spring (Aug–Oct) offers cooler conditions and wildflowers. Ride or walk early to avoid midday heat.
