Fremantle Railway Shared Path
About this cycle path
The Fremantle Railway Shared Path is a 6.2 km urban cycle route following the disused railway corridor into Fremantle. Well-sealed asphalt and moderate pace make it accessible for most riders. It's a direct, practical way to commute or explore the town and surrounding suburbs by bike, with good connections to Fremantle's waterfront and heritage precinct.
Highlights

- Follows heritage railway corridor
- Links suburbs to Fremantle centre
- Even gradient, suitable for most bikes
- Access to Fremantle's waterfront and shops
What to expect
Smooth asphalt throughout, mostly flat to gentle gradient. The path follows an old rail reserve, so you'll ride through urban and suburban stretches with some tree cover and open sections. Well-maintained surface and regular sight lines. Some road crossings and intersections; watch for pedestrians. Partly shaded by street trees, partly exposed.
Good to know
- Open to cyclists
- Firm/surfaced — more accessible going
Carry water, especially on warm days. Summer heat can be intense; ride early morning or evening. Check for any temporary closures. Shared with pedestrians and other cyclists—ride at a safe pace and give audible warning. Suitable for hybrid and road bikes; mountain bikes also fine. Best ridden outside peak commute hours if you prefer a quieter experience.
