Stan Road
About this track
Stan Road is an 18 km gravel track near Walpole that rewards fit walkers with a challenging day walk through forest country. The route follows a working track through tall timber typical of the South-West, offering solitude and a sense of self-reliance rather than manicured attractions. Allow 3.5–4 hours and come prepared for a serious walk in remote terrain.

What to expect
Gravel surface underfoot, undulating to hilly in places typical of the Walpole region. The track winds through dense karri and marri forest with intermittent shade. Expect minimal signposting and patches of rougher ground; navigation relies on track awareness and map knowledge. Summer can be warm under canopy; spring wildflowers appear in nearby clearings.
Good to know
Carry at least 2 litres of water; no facilities on route. Wear sturdy boots for gravel and uneven sections. Not recommended in bushfire season (Dec–Feb); check fire danger before heading out. Start early to finish before dark. Torches, map and compass or GPS essential for solo walkers. Moderate fitness required.
