West Coast Highway PSP
About this cycle route
The West Coast Highway PSP is a 6.9 km shared-use path that shadows the main highway corridor north of Perth, linking suburbs and offering a moderate-pace ride through urban and semi-urban landscape. Well-signposted and flat, it's a practical commute route and weekend ride for cyclists wanting to cover ground quickly without dealing with traffic.
Highlights
- Flat, easy-rolling terrain suits casual and commuter riders
- Well-signposted throughout the corridor
- Connects Perth suburbs via dedicated shared path
- 30-minute ride at moderate pace
- Low-traffic alternative to the highway itself
What to expect
A mostly flat, sealed shared path running parallel to the highway. Surfaces are even and purpose-built for cycling. Minimal gradient; the ride feels swift and consistent. Signposting is clear and regular. Exposure is mostly open or semi-open — expect limited tree cover in places, so sun exposure on hot days. Some sections may run through residential or light-industrial areas.
Good to know
- Open to cyclists
- Waymarked route
Carry water, especially on warmer days — little shade along the corridor. High-visibility gear and lights help where the path runs close to traffic. Check conditions after rain, as wet sealed surfaces can be slippery. Best ridden in spring (Aug–Oct) and autumn (Mar–May) to avoid summer heat. Suitable for hybrid bikes, road bikes and commuter setups.
