Armadale Railway PSP
About this cycle path
The Armadale Railway PSP is a 29 km sealed cycle route following the old railway corridor from Armadale south-east through Perth's outer suburbs. Mostly flat but lengthy, it's a challenging ride for fitness rather than technical skill. The path is well-suited to commuters and distance cyclists seeking a traffic-free route through developed areas, with few hills but sustained effort needed over the full distance.
Highlights
- 29 km traffic-free asphalt path
- Follows disused railway corridor
- Mostly flat, good for distance riding
- Links Armadale to outer suburbs
- Suitable for commute or weekend ride
What to expect
Smooth asphalt throughout on a dedicated cycling path. Terrain is predominantly flat with minimal gradient; the challenge comes from distance rather than climbing. The route is signposted and follows the former railway reserve, passing through suburban areas with some tree-lined sections offering occasional shade. Expect busy sections near Armadale and quieter stretches further out.
Good to know
- Open to cyclists
- Firm/surfaced — more accessible going
Carry water for the full 29 km—little shade on exposed sections. Summer heat makes early morning or late afternoon rides preferable; avoid peak summer midday. Check conditions after rain as the path may have damp patches. A hybrid or road bike suits the sealed surface. Spring wildflowers along verges are a bonus. Best ridden in autumn or winter.
