What to expect
Expect variable terrain mixing cleared trail, remnant bushland, and graded sections following the old rail path. Elevation is substantial—this is genuinely challenging with several uphill stretches across the range foothills. The trail is signposted throughout. Shade varies; some stretches run through forest offering respite, others more exposed. The ground underfoot ranges from dirt to gravel.
Good to know
- Waymarked route
Carry at least 1.5 litres of water; there are no reliable water sources mid-route. Wear sturdy walking shoes with good grip for uneven sections. The walk is best tackled in cooler months (autumn through spring); summer heat and bushfire risk make it unsuitable. Start early to avoid afternoon heat and allow full daylight. Dogs are not permitted in national parks.
