Kwinana Freeway PSP
About this cycle path
The Kwinana Freeway PSP is a long-distance concrete cycle path running 57 km between Rockingham and Perth's southern suburbs. This challenging route follows the freeway corridor and is best tackled in sections or as a multi-session ride. It's a practical commuter route but demands fitness, proper bike setup and careful attention to traffic-adjacent riding.
Highlights
- 57 km concrete path for serious distance cyclists
- Direct Perth–Rockingham transport corridor
- Mostly flat freeway-side riding
- Minimal climbing or technical terrain
- Urban and suburban sections
What to expect
A long, mostly flat concrete path running parallel to the Kwinana Freeway. Surfaces are generally well maintained. Shade is patchy—mostly open to sun on median or roadside sections. Signposting is standard PSP marking. Traffic noise from the freeway is constant. Sections pass through suburban areas and industrial precincts rather than natural bushland.
Good to know
- Open to cyclists
- Firm/surfaced — more accessible going
This is a distance ride; break it into 25–30 km segments if new to long rides. Carry plenty of water and sun protection—exposure is high and summer heat punishing. A road or hybrid bike suits the concrete surface. Bike lights essential for early morning or evening commuting. Winter and spring (Jun–Oct) offer the best riding conditions; avoid December–February heat.
