Leschenault Inlet Walk
About this footpath
The Leschenault Inlet Walk is a 4.9 km moderate footpath looping around one of Western Australia's coastal wetlands near Bunbury. The route offers good views of the inlet's shallow waters, birdlife and surrounding bushland. It's popular with walkers and cyclists alike, making it a versatile option for a one-hour outing close to town.
Highlights
- Inlet views across shallow coastal wetlands
- Birdwatching opportunity year-round
- Moderate pace, achievable in an hour
- Close to Bunbury's amenities and accommodation
- Accessible to both walkers and cyclists
What to expect
A generally flat to gently undulating coastal path on compacted earth and possibly some sealed sections. The route winds around the inlet with a mix of open wetland views and low coastal scrub and native vegetation. Signposting should guide you clearly; expect some exposed stretches with little shade, so sun protection is worthwhile.
Good to know
- Open to cyclists
Carry water, especially in warmer months. Coastal heath can be exposed to wind and sun; wear a hat and sunscreen. Spring (Aug–Oct) brings wildflowers and active bird breeding. The path is shared with cyclists, so stay aware of bike traffic. Summer brings heat and bushfire risk; check conditions before visiting.
