Bigurda Trail
About this walking route
Bigurda Trail is a challenging 8.3 km walk near Kalbarri that rewards effort with substantial elevation change and varied terrain. The route takes about 1 hour 45 minutes and suits walkers with good fitness. Well signposted throughout, it showcases the dramatic gorge country typical of the Pilbara, with red earth, rocky outcrops and native vegetation revealing the region's geological character.

What to expect
Challenging gradient with sustained climbs and descents over rough, rocky ground. Expect red earth, loose stones and scattered rocks underfoot. The trail is fully signposted but terrain is uneven; good balance and fitness are needed. Limited shade from sparse native vegetation; much of the walk is exposed to sun.

Carry plenty of water—at least 2 litres per person. Wear sturdy walking boots with good ankle support and traction. Start early to avoid midday heat. Summer brings extreme heat and bushfire risk; autumn to spring (March–October) is ideal. Check local conditions before visiting. No dogs in national parks.
