13 Mile Beach
About this track
A moderate 4.9 km beach track near Esperance that takes you across sand to the shoreline. This is a straightforward coastal walk best tackled in cooler months when the Southern Ocean breezes are gentle. The sand surface makes it slower going than firmer ground, but the walk rewards with open beach views and the chance to spot local birdlife and coastal vegetation adapted to salt spray and wind.

- Moderate pace due to soft sand surface
- Local birdlife and marine scenery
- Close to Esperance township facilities
What to expect
Sandy underfoot throughout, which slows your pace and requires deliberate footing; the track is relatively flat with no significant climbs. Expect minimal shade—wind-shaped coastal shrubs offer little shelter. Signposting should guide you to the beach and along the shoreline. Exposure to sun and wind is high, particularly on hot or windy days.
Good to know
Carry plenty of water; heat and sun reflect off sand. Wear sturdy, grit-shedding shoes and sun protection. Avoid December to March (hot, high bushfire risk). Spring (Aug–Oct) offers wildflowers and mild conditions. Check weather before heading out—coastal winds can be intense. Best as a day walk; allow extra time on soft sand.
