Karri Cup 2012
About this footpath
The Karri Cup is a challenging 8 km footpath loop near Northcliffe in the South-West karri forest. Built for the 2012 Karri Cup running event, this trail winds through tall timber country south of town, offering a serious workout through uneven forest terrain. Expect steep sections, root-studded paths and minimal facilities—this is a bushwalk for fit walkers and trail runners rather than a casual stroll.
Highlights
- 8 km loop through old-growth karri forest
- Steep, technical terrain for fitness challenge
- Root and rock-strewn forest floor
- South-West timber country character
- Purpose-built trail with event heritage
What to expect
Steep climbs and descents over technical, rooty ground typical of karri forest. The trail is narrow and uneven underfoot, with exposed rocks and fallen timber. Gradient is significant in places; this is genuinely challenging walking. Shade from tall karri and marri is excellent. Signposting should be adequate for the loop, but navigational confidence helps on a rugged track.
Good to know
Carry plenty of water—no facilities on trail. Wear sturdy, ankle-supporting boots or trail shoes for rough ground. Spring (Aug–Oct) offers mild weather and wildflowers; summer heat and bushfire risk make this less ideal December–February. Allow extra time if you're not a regular trail walker. Mobile coverage may be patchy in forest.
