2022 Walking Trail Route 3
About this walking route
A moderate 3.2 km walk on Rottnest Island, looping through native vegetation and offering views across the island's characteristic landscape. The route is well signposted and takes about 45 minutes at an easy pace, making it suitable for most fitness levels. Rottnest's exposed terrain and shallow soils support low shrubland and coastal heath—classic limestone island ecology.

What to expect
The trail crosses relatively flat to gently rolling limestone ground, underfoot a mix of compacted soil, sand and rock. Vegetation is low and sparse—don't expect forest shade. The route is fully signposted, making navigation straightforward. Expect full sun exposure and often strong wind; the island's open character means little shelter.
Good to know
- Waymarked route
Carry plenty of water and sun protection; Rottnest summers are hot and exposed. Wear sturdy walking shoes for uneven limestone. Spring (August–October) brings wildflowers. Dogs are not permitted on Rottnest Island. The walk is accessible year-round, though summer heat can be intense.
