What to expect
Uneven coastal and inland terrain with a mix of limestone, sandy paths and heath scrub. Significant elevation changes make this a genuinely challenging walk—expect steep sections and rocky ground requiring good footwork. The route is well signposted but exposed in places; shade is minimal. Weather on Rottnest can change quickly, and wind is common.
Good to know
- Waymarked route
Carry at least 2 litres of water—no refill points exist. Wear sturdy walking shoes with good grip for rocky sections. Start early to avoid afternoon heat and wind. Spring (August–October) offers cooler conditions and wildflowers. Summer heat and exposed sections make this walk less pleasant December–February. No facilities at trailhead.
