Arboretum Road
About this track
Arboretum Road is a 7 km moderate track near Pemberton that winds through the tall timber country of the South-West. The unpaved surface and steady gradient make it a rewarding half-day walk through forest typical of the karri and jarrah woodland that characterises this region. Well-suited to walkers seeking a quiet forest experience without extreme elevation gain.
Highlights
- Tall karri and jarrah forest canopy
- Unpaved track through native bushland
- Moderate gradient, steady pace
- Around 1.5 hours return walk
- Quiet forest setting away from crowds
What to expect
The unpaved track is generally well-defined underfoot, with forest litter (leaf matter and small stones) as you progress. Gradient is moderate and consistent rather than steep, making it accessible for most fitness levels. Shade is good thanks to the tall timber overhead, though the canopy opens periodically. The track should be signposted; watch for directional markers.
Good to know
Carry at least 1–1.5 litres of water. Spring (August–October) offers wildflowers and mild weather. Summer heat can be intense; avoid midday walks November–March. Wear sturdy walking shoes with good grip on loose ground. The South-West can be wet in winter; check conditions after heavy rain.
