Bibbulmun Track
About this walking route
The Bibbulmun Track is a 960 km long-distance walking trail stretching from Kalamunda (Perth Hills) to Nornalup (south coast). This challenging multi-week bushwalk traverses diverse South-Western terrain: jarrah and karri forest, granite outcrops, coastal heath and limestone country. Walkers typically complete sections over several trips rather than end-to-end. Well-signposted and maintained, the track passes through remote bushland with campsites spaced roughly 15–20 km apart, offering solitude and deep engagement with WA's south-west landscape.

What to expect
Consistent forest walking on formed and rough tracks, gentle to moderate gradients with steeper sections through valleys and around outcrops. Surface varies: packed earth, leaf litter, rocky patches and creek crossings. Good signposting and cairns throughout. Shade from tall timber in many sections; exposed heath and coastal areas in others. Undulating rather than flat, with river valleys and ridge lines shaping the route.
Good to know
- Waymarked route
Carry water, map and compass; reliable resupply points are far apart. Start spring (Aug–Oct) for mild weather and wildflowers; summer heat and bushfire risk make November–February challenging. Winter (Jun–Jul) is cool but wet. Sturdy boots essential. Experienced off-track navigation skills recommended for remote sections. Check track conditions and fire bans before departure.
