What to expect
Sandy, well-used footpath across flat to gently undulating terrain typical of Rottnest. The track winds through low coastal scrub and heath with minimal shade. Signposting is clear. Underfoot is mostly sand and compacted earth; the surface can shift after wind or rain. Little elevation gain, but sand can be tiring to walk on. Exposed to sun and wind.
Good to know
Carry plenty of water—there are no reliable water sources on the trail. Rottnest is exposed and hot; sun protection is essential. Wear sturdy walking shoes with good grip for sandy sections. Best walked in cooler months (May–September). Check weather before heading out, as wind can be strong. Dogs are not permitted on Rottnest Island.
