Pioneer Road is a short, easy track near Northcliffe in the South-West that makes for a quick bushwalk through jarrah and marri forest. What to expect
Gentle walking on a well-formed track through open jarrah and marri forest. Minimal elevation change throughout. The track is signposted and easy to follow. Reasonable shade from tall trees, though some stretches are more open. Ground is mostly firm underfoot; soft earth in places after rain.
Good to know
Carry water even on short walks in the South-West — the forest can feel warm and shelter from breeze. Spring (August–October) brings wildflowers. Avoid this walk during high fire-danger days in summer. Wear sturdy walking shoes for uneven ground. Dogs are typically not permitted in national parks; check local conditions before visiting.
