Shale Road is a moderate 5.3 km gravel track near Pemberton in the South-West. The walk takes around an hour and a quarter and suits most fitness levels. It's a straightforward route on well-maintained gravel, ideal for a half-day outing in the region's tall timber country.

What to expect
The track is gravel throughout, making it easy underfoot with good traction in most conditions. Terrain is relatively even with gentle grades typical of the Pemberton area. The route will be shaded by jarrah and marri forest typical of the South-West. Signposting should be clear; stay on the marked gravel line to avoid confusion.
Good to know
Carry 1.5–2 litres of water, especially in warmer months. Wear sturdy walking shoes for gravel. Spring (Aug–Oct) offers pleasant conditions and wildflowers. Summer heat and bushfire risk require early starts and weather checks. The track may be muddy after rain.
