About this track

The Fire Trail is a challenging 21 km track through the Pilbara landscape near Karijini. Expect red earth, rocky sections and sustained climbing over nearly five hours. This is a serious bushwalk best tackled by experienced walkers with good fitness and navigation skills. The remote terrain demands careful preparation: carry plenty of water, start early, and check conditions before heading out.

Highlights

  • Red earth and Pilbara geology
  • Rocky, technical terrain throughout
  • Remote bushwalking experience
  • Sustained elevation gain and loss
  • Panoramic views across the ranges

What to expect

Unpaved track with rocky, uneven footing and significant elevation changes. Sections are steep and exposed to sun. Signposting may be minimal; navigation skills and a map are essential. Little shade on the open Pilbara landscape. Surfaces vary between compacted earth, loose rock and stone. The track is relentless rather than leisurely.

Good to know

Carry at least 3 litres of water; sources are unreliable. Start before dawn to finish safely in daylight. Summer heat and bushfire risk make cooler months (April–September) essential. Wear sturdy boots with good grip. Tell someone your plans. Mobile reception may be patchy.
