- Gorge-carved terrain and geological interest
- Remote Karijini backcountry experience
- Extended walk on gravel surface
- Challenging gradient and exposure
What to expect
Gravel track with rough, uneven footing and variable gradient—some steep sections typical of gorge country. The Pilbara landscape offers little natural shade; expect full sun exposure for much of the route. Track is generally marked but remote, so navigation confidence and fitness are needed. Terrain is rocky and unforgiving underfoot.
Good to know
Carry at least 2–3 litres of water per person; the Pilbara is hot and dry. Wear sturdy hiking boots and high-SPF sun protection. Check track conditions and weather before setting out—summer brings extreme heat and bushfire risk. Start early to finish in daylight. Mobile reception may be unreliable; inform someone of your plans.
